It works! Yes This is close enough to the navigation I was hoping to achieve. Thank you.
I still would like different colors for each month. Perhaps someone can point me to the appropriate file where I can include the necessary PHP coding.

When on the Settings page, in the Views section, you set "Weeks to show in Month view" to 0 (zero), you will always see the full month and the inner arrows will always skip to the next or previous full month.
You will then have a calendar that "operates" on month - just like your old paper calendar.
And you also have the image for a month. You can replace the month-images with some of your own images - just remember to give the images the same names as the examples.
Please tell if this is close to want you want to achieve.
You copy the images from the sidepanel/samples folder to the sidepanel folder
You should then have 01month.jpg, 02month.jpg 03month.jpg and so on in the sidepanel folder
In settings - views you set the fields in the line : Side panel in calendar views
To: 2 (month view) for the "Mini Calendar", "Images" and "Info area".
You could instead just set the value 2 for the "Images" field.
This will put the image for the chosen month in the side-panel.
Imagine that the inner triangle was made for scrolling one month -
You would then see the calendar for a month and the corresponding image for that month when you "scroll". You could also have some info text for that month. Maybe just a headline with the month-name.
If it was not made so difficult to make links, I could show an example - d... those spammers.
I copied the Sample horse photos into the sidepanel folder and uploaded them to my web site. I also checked the Settings-> Views->"Show images in month view" box. No images were visible in the side panel.
Perhaps my problem is - I didn't put anything in the box labeled "Images" directly above the "Show images in month view" box. What would go there?
Hello Bobonwhidbey
I like the the idea of scrolling through months. Maybe it could be a matter of setting. Scroll like now - or scroll through month (inner triangle) and year (outer triangle).
I support this idea.
About the colors: I think this could be too many colors.
Are you aware of the possibility with the side-panel. If you could scroll through months then you would see a different image in the side panel for every month - just like the "old paper calendar"
Just a thought
I assumed you wouldn't be interested in this, so I would need to modify one or two files. I'm only interested in the month view for this feature. Not knowing how complicated this might be, it would be fabulous if you could tackle this project.
We've all grown up with the typical paper calendar that flips over to a new page each month. Each month with a different picture and perhaps different theme. It's nice to 'turn the page' - different month, different season, different colors. Two new features to your wonderful calendar would go a long way to recapture that familiar feel.
Navigation: As I understand it, the date bar arrows move a full year (52 weeks?) or 4 weeks. Rather than +- 4 weeks, I would like an option for the 4 week arrows to move from month to month, like flipping a calendar. Of course the last few days of the preceding month would appear in the top week as would days of the next month in the bottom week(s) - still maintaining 6 weeks in each view. In this manner, the pages in the monthly view calendar would 'flip over' more like a traditional paper calendar.
Colors: Yes, a 12 x 2 table of colors (e.g. #D7FFD7) is needed. The bar color would be associated with the only full month shown on the page. The background color would of course vary with the month of the actual day.
Perhaps a "fixed month" view would only allow for 6 weeks visible at one time. But that's not necessary. The bar colors could just apply to the first complete month shown.
Hi there,
Just to be sure I understand your exact needs:
Are you looking for the possibility to define separate background and bar colors for each individual month, so 12 pairs of colors?
If so, would a fixed table somewhere with 12 x 2 (bg and bars) color do?
The bars are part of the calendar frame and the calendar frame can contain more than one month. So how should the bar colors be linked to the month? Or have you configured the Settings such that always one full month is displayed?
Do you want these colors just for Month view, or also for Year view?
Once I have your reply, I will see what would be the best approach. Could be tricky and quite a bit of work

I am aware of only two different color schemes, month1 and month2, changed under UI Styling. I would like to be able to change the background color (BGWE1 for example) depending on the month, as well as the bar colors (BBHAR). I can not imagine this is an improvement you would want to provide for all users. I am comfortable tweaking the PHP coding but need a little help. What file/function is the best for redefining these color codes?
