Perhaps a solution would be in the set up for Venue.  Admin can select "User Entered" or "Defined". If "User Entered" is selected then they type what they want when entering the venue information. If "Defined" is selected then the Admin adds venues like they do "Categories".

Hi Noel,

Since I have never printed from LuxCal I never noticed the paper size was A4. Having the U.S. letter format as a selection, used here in Canada as well as the U.S. would be a nice option for the next release. Chances are you already figured you would include it.

Kind regards,
Dan

Hello Rarmy,

Under Administration click on settings and scroll down to Dates/Times you can customize it whatever order you want.

Hi Roel,

As already mentioned pretty much any ISP limits the number of emails either at one sending, during an hour or perhaps even during a 24 hour periode. For most small sites the limits aren't an issue. I have seen different programs / scripts that allow the number to be set in the settings of how many to send in a given periode etc.

The one main site that I have a customer running LuxCal on has 380 members. They aren't in LuxCal so it will never be an issue as far as LuxCal goes for them but might be if they were and there is a 250 limit.

That is why many sites etc have gone to using a site / service like Mail Chimp. There is also an integration feature which may or may not also be a possibility with LuxCal. https://mailchimp.com/integrations/

Dan

Jay,

Keep in mind any hacks that you or anyone else makes, unless Roel decides to incorporate them into LuxCal, you will need to make them any time you upgrade to a newer version.

You don't need to click the button to see the address. Just hover over the "Address" button and it is revealed.

Personally I find the way it is works fine for me. If I hover over the "Address" button it shows the address. If I know where the address is I don't need to see it on the map. If while I hover over the button and don't know where the address is a click of the button brings it up on the map.

Perhaps a compromise. Since the "Address" button will also produce a map have the button label be "Address / Map"

What about RSS? As I recall LuxCal supports RSS so you can use a reader.

Hi Roel,

One nice feature or benefit is they don't have to be LuxCal registered user's. It could be simply a link from a current event, perhaps like a plugin is for other scripts. For those that don't need the feature they don't set it up.

The main site that currently use's LuxCal has a few event's each year, one is a paid event, that they could likely use the features of this script. I'll present it to them and see if they want me to set it up.

The only weak or challenging part is the installation or setup. It requires some work to create the database and set up the fields.

The only thing it doesn't have is the waiting list feature. In the PDF that is included in the download explains how it could be added.

4.5.1.1. Hidden Special Purpose Fields

You might want data fields to track some data that you don't necessarily want to display to the user. One example is a waiting list. It is beyond the scope of the registration system to try to keep up with a waiting list, but it is possible to create a data field to help the registrar keep track of the data.

You can define a field in the $c_aryFieldDefs parameter of the olr-config.php file, then remove the HTML element for it from the registration HTML page. The field will be in the database, but will not be displayed in the registration page.

My suggestion may or may not ever make it into LuxCal. I found an OpenSource online Registration script where if these features were in LuxCal it would be fantastic.

As a stand alone Online Registration System, this script this appears to have most of what I was looking for.

While it won't be linked directly to LuxCal it will enable people to register. If there is a fee they will also be able to pay it (assuming they have a PayPal Seller Account).

It also requires a MySQL database. SQLite isn't listed as an option. Currently it use's PHP 5.4.xx, 5.5.xx, or 5.6.xx.

Hi Roel,

On the surface it doesn't appear the server is handling php pages as php scripts / pages. My browser asks to open or save the page.

I put in this suggestion some time ago a few versions back under the old forum.

I have an event that will be limited to the number of attendee's or I would like to know how many are attending to make the necessary arrangements. For example, how many chairs, tables or meals are needed.

When creating the event the following options. Registration required [Yes / No] check box.
Limit number [ ] field box
Waiting List [Yes / No ] check box. Enable waiting list if Limit Number reached.
Registered Users [ ] check box. Do they have to be registered user's of the calendar.
Attendee's email [             ] text field. If they don't need to be a registered user of the calendar the attendee's email address. This could be used for email's to the participants and / or those on the waiting list.

Cost / Price field(s). This would be a bonus if implemented. Say to attend I have pay a fee etc. Instructions or a link to make payment. PayPal is very popular as well as other's. In Canada we have eTransfer where I can eTransfer money from my bank account to your bank account, all I need is your email address.

This would be a huge undertaking to add to LuxCal. It would also greatly expand its' functionality for many groups.

Even for a family calendar for a family get together, wedding or funeral etc. In the posting the details of the event with a link can be provided to the calendar. The reason I know is because last year our family had four deaths. We had no way of knowing how many were going to attend to plan for how much food was required. Too little and you ran out. More than was needed added to the cost and what to do with the remaining food.

Hi Jonathan,

Inside the zip file you will find a file named release_notes_4.7.5.html which has the instructions on how to upgrade.

Hello Laur,

Do you mean like you have a repeating event each week but if it falls on a holiday it is skipped / blocked?

Hi Roel,

A while back, I think on my request, you added a couple of added fields (Extra field 1 & Extra field 2) so a person could use them for whatever purpose they wanted.

A user recently posted in the Need Help section with the topic Wish list about adding more extra fields.

The question is how many fields? If you make it four will someone else want six.

The labels Extra field 1 & Extra field 2 aren't descriptive of what might be put in those fields making LuxCal look a little less polished.

Perhaps change the way extra fields are handled and make them like categories. I can delete categories I don't need, change the name on current ones and create new categories with new names.

If someone doesn't need any extra fields they don't create any. They are also free to add as many as they like or need, unless you set a limit. They can also give them their own field name.

Dan

Good evening, Dan...

Normally, yes. However, in Luxcal it is hard coded to "lcal.png" file within the code.

For me, since I know PHP it wasn't hard to find and decipher what it was looking for, and where the file is located.

However, for others who aren't so versed, it would take them a while to figure that out.

I think the option and ease for an end-user to be able to define the filename / logo wanted, would be a nice, easy, added feature.

Good morning Chuck.

You are correct that LuxCal is hard coded to use lcal.png as the favicon.ico. I just created my own lcal.png 24 pixels x 24 pixels and use it. When I upgrade I replace the included lcal.png with the one I created.

Not being a coder I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to add the feature you describe.

Dan

Hi Roel,

MP is used extensively in our calendar as it is the abbreviation for Member of Parliament and our local MP has regular bookings at our premises. The computer naive would be at a loss to understand why they kept seeing a lot of "Coffee and Chat" responses in their search results and why &" appeared where "and" should be!

Being in Canada we have the PM (Prime Minister) as well as MP's. Of course we also have, as the U.S. does, two letter abbreviations for Provinces  / States. I think that is why many searches have a minimum of three characters in a search.

On a technical note; M.P. would be proper. Due to laziness many have dropped the dots between the letters when writing / typing them out.

As a trivial point, MP is also Military Police.

Roel,

I know search can be a nightmare for any script. Some require a minimum number of characters, example three.

With some scripts, or as with Google, an exact match can be set by enclosing the search within quotes. Of course with a search such as "mp" it is a match with & where the search " mp " wouldn't match since there isn't a space before and after the mp.

The help section for the Search Function is quite good. Perhaps a slight update to the help section for how the search function works and doesn't work with html codes will help people to make it effective in finding what they are looking for.

The site has a footer and because I haven't found a way of making the height of the iframe flexible so that the diary neatly fits the space allotted for it, and never has it's own scrollbar or an empty space below it, I was thinking about merging those static parts into the diary page.

I assumed the browser would load the static part from its cache, so there wouldn't be a big overhead.

However, learning how to make the iframe height vary with the content of diary would probably be preferable.

(I fear I'm drifting off topic!)

I'm not in any sense a programmer. Will what is here help solve your iframe issue?

Hi Roel,

I look forward to seeing V4.7.4 early next year.

Best regards,

There is the Venue title. The location address might be put there or in the description.

I know we have to blank fields but they are further down. Perhaps right below the Venue have a field for the address. This would be of benefit for those not using LuxCal as personal Calendar that might know where the location is.

To take it a step further a button link to the right of the field that says "Map". When clicked the address field is passed to Google Maps showing the location.

If done this way it doesn't require a Developer's API which would could cost money but is a simple link to Google Maps. As alternative to Google Maps, Open Street Map could be used. https://www.openstreetmap.org

Unless the person clicks on the menu to bring up a detailed search they don't know it exists. Most sites have a simple text search box or in CNN's case a magnifying glass that when clicked brings up the search box. Add the default search to the top bar or below top bar and above date with the detailed search still on the menu.

You could have just the magnifying glass like CNN's site that when clicked brings up the search just like in the menu.

You can see CNN's here. https://www.cnn.com/

Text box with magnifying glass here. https://www.pcmag.com/

I agree it would be a great feature. It should also be optional in the Admin settings.

Check to make sure you have the user name and password entered correctly. If you did a copy and paste there might be an extra space at the beginning or end.

Dan

It is great that you figured out the cause and posted what it was Jay.

Hello Jay,

It might be a minor point; it should be: http://mydomain/event/?cal=mycal
