Topic: The mail for a new registered user is not sent to the user

Hello,

I just made new LuxCal installations (Ver. 5.2.2M) with option to Self registration for visitors as 'Post own' group users. The problem is that the mail with username and password are not sent to the new registered user but to the calendar owner! How to change this?

With best regards, mucu

Hello,

in addition: The option mail "Send new password" is sent to the calendar owner too - not to the user (who is waiting for a new password)!

Best regards, mucu

Re: The mail for a new registered user is not sent to the user

Hi Mucu,
It's hard to say why the user doesn't receive the email with the generated password. I tested this again in our test calendars and all seems to function as it should.
Could you check if on the Settings page in the section Reminders - General, the "Max. no. of recipients per email" is set? The default is 10.

The email with the generated password is sent to the calendar email address with a Bcc to the user. So if the calendar owner receives the email, it means it has been sent (as Bcc) to the user as well. Could it be that it ends up in the user's spam folder?

I'm thinking in this direction, because nobody else reported this problem.

Re: The mail for a new registered user is not sent to the user

Hello, Roel,

thanks for your reply. Yes, the "Max. no. of recipients per email" had always been set to 10.

The problem seems to be mystical:

I had tested in 2 installations at 2 different providers, the result was identical.

Today, I registered a new user abc. The result was the same: abc got no mail, two mails with the password and the additional info mail about a new user were sent to the calendar-address.

Another try: I also registered the new user uzz. The result was the same.

A third try: I also registered a new user tze. The result was OK! tze got a mail with the password, a copy of this mail and the additional info mail about the new user were sent to the calendar-address - just as wanted!

The difference was, that the E-Mails for the calendar-address and the users mucu, abc and uzz are received by the same E-Mail-Client on my desktop, but the E-Mails for tze are received by gmx.de.

I don’t understand the background, but the problem is not with the LuxCal software but seems to be with the handling of the E-Mails: No mail ended up in spam - all mails that reached the calendar owner were addressed FROM calendar-address TO calendar-address! It’s mystical...

But so I could now finish my tests with LuxCal sussessfully, and for the future we will use your calendar software with all its finely realised features! Thank you for your problem check and support, best regards,

mucu

Re: The mail for a new registered user is not sent to the user

Hi Mucu,
Something I forgot to mention:
Quite some internet providers only support the sending of PHP emails to the outside world if the sender email address is an address created via the ISP.
In other words: It is always a good idea to use for the calendar email address an address created via the cPanel of the provider.

I don't know if this could be the reason of your problems, but maybe it helps.

Re: The mail for a new registered user is not sent to the user

There are several possible reasons for this problem.

Because of industry wide attempts to minimize spam, some ISP's have turned off PHP mail.

Other ISP's now REQUIRE that sent mail be through secured email accounts which require userid's and passwords before transmission is allowed.

In my case, I had to install PHPmailer to get a package that would allow me to create emails from my website that would meet all of the requirements of my ISP and allow me to generate the emails using PHP.

Other software solution suggestions made by my ISP did not work - primarily because my site was not written under the rules of either a CMS type system like Word Press or using a foundation system like Laravel.

and of course there is the remote possibility that your emails were being treated as spam, because your email server's tcp/ip address was blacklisted.  Blacklisting can occur when somebody else on the same shared web server -is- sending spam, and your emails get "discarded" because they are coming from the same tcp/ip address. (This, however, is a condition that your ISP should be able to figure out, and they have to be involved to fix it.)
