Topic: CALDav Synchronisation

Hello,

I havent installed the calendar to my site yet. I was wondering if the calendar can be synchronised to a CALDav server? I host one on my NAS and it currently syncs all my tasks and events to my phone and to thunderbird, would be great if it could sync to this as well.

Thanks in advance!

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Dear LuxCal Development/Community Team,
Above I came across a suggestion for LuxCal to implement calDav support. While I understand LuxCal has its own robust calendar functionality, I believe that integrating calDav (even only .ics import from URL) would significantly benefit the user base. I'm somewhat surprised that no one has yet attempted to do anything with it. Look, currently, some users may be limited to paid solutions for calendar synchronization across platforms. CalDav stands out as a widely-supported open standard that offers a free and platform-agnostic (Android/iOS/MS/Linux/..) approach to calendar management.
Advantages of calDav integration with LuxCal will be huge. to inquire about the development team's perspective on its potential inclusion in LuxCal. IN MY OPINION, this should now be the first milestone on the LuxCal roadmap. I found this webpage: https://std.rocks/gnulinux_shared_calendar.html , where LuxCal (as web app) could serve as an ideal addition to the existing list.

@Roel hi again,
I understand deleting offtopic comments @UE Member (and also one of my messages..). I didn't receive an answer to e-mail and also here in the comment. I asked a substantive question and it would be nice to finally get an answer.

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Hi there,
Apparently I deleted also one of your messages. I can't roll this back, I'm sorry for this.
I had a look at the CalDAV possibilities and agree that this could be interesting for some LuxCal users. I also had a look at the CalDAV API Developer's Guide and think that from our side quite some research is needed before we could possibly implement this interface.
Currently we have a new calendar version which shortly will start the beta-testing phase and is planned to be released late November. It will not be possible to take a decision before the release of this new LuxCal version.
So we will investigate the possibilities to connect LuxCal to a CalDAV server after the release of the next LuxCal calendar version and then take a decision if we will implement this interface.

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Thank you Roel for your answer and Maybe below will interest you.
Many of my acquaintances utilize Microsoft Calendar for professional purposes, while opting for calDav (Baikal) for personal use. Should the calDav standard continue to gain widespread adoption, it could potentially diminish one of Microsoft's competitive advantages. Individuals with technical expertise have increasingly abandoned proprietary calendar systems in favor of Caldav's open protocol. This protocol enables seamless integration with a variety of calendar apps across different platforms. It is similar to OpenTask, allowing you to manage a single task or note across multiple apps and platforms, particularly for those who prefer to keep their data private in selfhosted app and avoid cloud storage. I want to emphasize that this isn't a demand but rather a suggestion. I understand that Luxsoft can't prioritize this feature immediately. However, I believe that integrating LuxCal would offer significant benefits without any apparent drawbacks.

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Given Luxsoft extensive experience in developing web apps and leveraging the open calDAV standard, I believe there is significant potential to create solution that will resonate with users on all world.
It is somewhat surprising to me, a self-proclaimed skeptic, to express such optimism about this project.

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Hi, Roel,
I tried to create this forum account from int.pl (mail server) but I didn't get a response. My login is Tost_PL. I also wrote to e-Mail. Could you take a look at what the problem is?

Second question:
Has anyone from LuxSoft found time to look at the CalDav standard (integration with Baikal server)? I'd like to know your moods (are we all optimistic).

Best regards smile

Re: CALDav Synchronisation

Hi there,
I searched the forum for Tost_PL and found nothing. What do you mean by Ï also wrote to e-Mail"? Try again and send me the used email address; I will then complete the account if you don't get an email.
We are currently busy preparing the release of the new calendar version 5.3.3, planned for December.
We had a look at the CalDav standard and think it would be a major effort to implement this in the LuxCal calendar. If there is sufficient interest in this, we will investigate this possibility in more detail after the release of the next LuxCal version.

I'm no in a hurry, I'm also waiting for a new version to test it smile

It is fair, but I think that it isn't the end user who should see the advantages of such integration, but you (Product Owner).
This topic was created a long time ago and still arouses interest. In my opinion, the strength of Free Software is in integration.
